Stuck in Pimpri Chinchwad Traffic A New 250 Seater Electric Transit System May Be the Answer.

The Municipal Corporation is exploring the implementation of an Electric Rapid Transit System (ERTS) to address the public inconvenience caused by the rising population and increasing traffic congestion in the Pimpri Chinchwad area. This ERTS system is designed to carry 250 passengers at a time. Notably, the proposed route will traverse the heart of the city, connecting key locations such as Godown Chowk, Nashik Highway, Kudalwadi Chowk, Auto Cluster, Kalewadi Phata, Jagtap Dairy Chowk, and Wakad Chowk.

While a BRTS service already exists on this route, the Municipal Corporation intends to introduce ERTS as an alternative. The integration of ERTS alongside Metro, Metro Neo, BRTS, and ERPS is expected to give a new boost to public transportation in Pimpri Chinchwad.

A proposal is underway to appoint Maha Metro as a consultant to prepare a detailed report on the ERTS route. Maha Metro has expressed its readiness to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR). The feasibility of the ERTS had previously been discussed in a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, and technical aspects of the route were deliberated upon during a meeting between Maha Metro and the Municipal Commissioner in April 2026. The next steps will follow once approvals are secured from the City Improvement Committee and the Municipal Corporation. All eyes are now on whether the ERTS initiative will actually materialize to revitalize Pimpri Chinchwad's transport system.

A DPR is a document providing comprehensive technical and financial details regarding a project's feasibility such as the exact route alignment, cost estimates, technical specifications, land requirements, environmental impact, and implementation schedule. For government bodies like Maha Metro, an approved DPR is essential before transitioning a project from the proposal stage to actual implementation or the tendering process.
